Computers for Kids, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that was formed for the primary purpose of providing technological resources to underprivileged children outside of the
classroom. At-home access to computers offers several benefits which include reinforcing the importance of learning in the home environment and the beneficial secondary effects on sibilings and parents. Computers are an essential tool in both education and the workplace.
Many businesses often dispose of valuable computer equipment
because it may be too outdated or slow to run their particular business software programs. Or these businesses may just be upgrading their systems to faster processor speed. If these older systems are configured with the appropriate operating system and application software, they are very functional for school-age children.
Recipients of these recycled computers are obtained from school referrals or by application to Computers for Kids, Inc. An application form is available upon request by contacting us directly or printing the form from this website. Upon notification, the computer must be picked up at out office located in Winter Haven, Florida. A parent or guardian must sign the social contract agreeing that the primary student user will write an age-appropriate essay answering the question, "How will a home computer benefit my education and my family?" This essay must be completed approximately 60 days after receiving the computer system. Some essays may be selected to appear on this website in the near future. There is no charge for the computer system,
although there is a $10 administrative fee that is required when the
recipient picks up the computer system.
